"Start looking into the future as if it is already now. Do not follow the market leaders. Offer something new, and be ahead of them, including those far bigger than you."

Those are his words, and they describe a method rather than a mood. Goals are set from the future. Risk is calculated, not avoided. Opportunities are taken while they are still rising. And the measure of a leader is what is built, not what is held.

43 years of leadership, and counting since 1983

Profile

A Saudi industrial leader who makes rather than imports, who founds rather than follows, and who has chosen to build a group that will outlast him.

Mohammed Ali Alesayi is Chairman and Group Chief Executive of Alesayi Holding, the Jeddah-based industrial and trading group of the Ali Abdullah Al-Esayi family, and has led the family's businesses since 1983.

Trained as an industrial engineer at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, he began his career on the operations floor and has stayed close to it. He has founded companies in transport, cement and beverages, chaired manufacturing companies in cans, glass and metals, and led the group's beverage business into contract manufacturing for international brands.

His footprint runs from Jeddah and Makkah to Jubail and Riyadh, across the border to Taiz, Aden and Sana'a, and north to Bursa in Turkey. Few Saudi industrialists of his generation have built on both sides of the Kingdom's borders through the years that made it hard to do so.

Since 2024 he has turned the same energy inward: giving the group its first documented strategy, independent directors, written authority, a governance and risk function, and the operating model of a professional holding. The ambition is simple to state and hard to do. A family group in Jeddah, run to the standard of a listed company, leading its industry in the Kingdom and the region.

How he leads

Five working principles, in his own words. Each one opens to show what it means and where it has shaped a decision.

Most plans start from today and reach forward. He plans the other way. He pictures the group as it should be in ten years, treats that picture as the present, and asks what must already be true for it to exist.

That reverses the questions. Not what can be afforded this year, but what capacity, capability and reputation must be in place by the time the opportunity arrives. A factory takes two years to build. A trusted partner takes longer. If the future is now, those decisions belong to this quarter.

It is also a discipline against drift. A plan written from the present forgives delay. A plan written from the future does not, because every month without progress is taken from an outcome already decided.

Where it shaped a decisionIn December 2024 he set the group a three-year and a ten-year agenda before it had a written strategy. The strategy was then built to meet the agenda, not the other way round.

Opportunity has a shape. It rises, it peaks, and it is gone. The skill is not in seeing it, because many people see it. The skill is in being ready to move while it is still rising, before the price of entry climbs with it.

Readiness is the real work. Calculated risk means the risk has in fact been calculated: the downside is known, the exit is known, and the organisation can absorb a miss. With that in place, speed becomes a decision rather than a gamble.

The chances he has taken were rarely the obvious ones. They were often in places and sectors others judged too early or too hard.

Where it shaped a decisionA transport company founded in 1984 to serve Makkah. A cement company founded in Aden in 2007. A beverage company founded in Bursa. Each entered while its market was forming, not after it had settled.

"It is not good to follow market leaders." The moment you follow, you have accepted second place and the leader's timetable. You arrive where they already are, later, with less.

Being different is not being contrary. It is finding the thing the leader cannot or will not do, and building there. A larger competitor has scale. It also has commitments, legacy and a board that protects what exists. A focused challenger can move around all three.

For an industrial group in Saudi Arabia today, the difference is in making. Many trade. Fewer manufacture to an international standard. Fewer still do it for the world's brands under their own roof.

Where it shaped a decisionThe group's beverage business was positioned as a manufacturing partner for international brands, producing to their specifications and passing their audits, rather than competing only on its own labels.

Creativity in industry is not decoration. It is the search for a new combination: a product, a channel, a partner or a brand that did not exist in that form before.

"Branding became a big, unlimited opportunity." A factory is bounded by its capacity. A brand is not. It travels across borders, categories and generations. Owning brands, rather than only producing for them, turns an industrial group into something with a lasting identity of its own.

That is why brand ownership now sits at the centre of the group's strategy, with a dedicated company to manage the brands the family has built over decades.

Where it shaped a decisionA group brand study concluded that the Alesayi brands belong at holding level, with the marketing company appointed brand manager and the single commercial point of contact for them.

A leader who makes things cannot make them alone. The companies in this group employ thousands, across borders. What holds them together is not a person. It is a shared way of working, with measures everyone can see.

He studied industrial management, and the lesson that stayed is simple: what is measured is managed, and what is managed can be improved. Teamwork without measures becomes goodwill. Measures without teamwork become fear. The two belong together.

So every leader in the group now has a scorecard. Every company reports to its board on the same basis. And the authority to decide is written down, so that people can act with confidence and be held to account fairly.

Where it shaped a decisionA Board-approved authority matrix across the group, periodic management reports to every board, a full set of company KPIs and leaders' scorecards, all introduced for the first time between 2025 and 2026.

Executive achievements

What has been built, grouped by what it changed. Positions are the record of a career. These are its results.

Built an industrial group across sectors and borders

From a family trading house in Jeddah to a group that manufactures, moves and markets, with operations on both sides of the Kingdom's southern border and in Turkey.

  • Founded Makkah Transport Company in 1984 and Al Yamamah Transport Services in 1987, building the group's logistics base.
  • Founded Unity Cement in Aden in 2007 and has chaired it since, one of the few Saudi-led heavy-industry investments in Yemen.
  • Founded AQUAA ANNA Beverages in Bursa, Turkey, taking the family's beverage know-how outside the Arab world.
  • Has chaired Industrial Soft Drinks Company in Taiz and Alesayi Industrial and Trading in Aden continuously since 1983.

Made Alesayi a manufacturer for the world's brands

Positioned Alesayi Beverages as a contract manufacturing partner for international brands, bringing their standards, audits and policies onto a Saudi factory floor.

  • Set contract manufacturing as the strategic core of the group's three-year and ten-year agenda.
  • Established a dedicated co-packing function with its own policies and procedures.
  • Used international partners' requirements as the lever to raise quality and governance across the whole group.

Turned a family business into an institution

Since late 2024, a deliberate sequence of firsts that moved the group from founder-led to board-led.

  • Appointed non-shareholder directors to the group's boards for the first time, and formed Audit and Risk and Nomination and Remuneration committees.
  • Approved the group's first authority matrix at Board level, and its first governance manual, code of conduct and enterprise risk register.
  • Convened the first whole-group executive workshop, in August 2025, and sponsored the group's first documented strategy.
  • Led the Board's adoption, in July 2026, of the strategy and an operating holding model.

Chose the portfolio with discipline

Entering early is half the method. Leaving well is the other half. He has exited investments once they had done their work, and redeployed the capital into what makes and what owns.

  • Chaired Southern Can Manufacturing in Makkah for twenty-six years, from 1997, before phasing out the family's share.
  • Served on the boards and audit committees of Zoujaj Glass in Riyadh and Al Maadaniya in Jubail until both stakes were sold.
  • Directed a group brand study that placed brand ownership at the holding, with a single brand manager for the group.

Served the sectors he knows

National and regional roles chosen where his operating experience can change outcomes.

  • Founder member of the National Committee for Sustainability and Green Economy at the Federation of Saudi Chambers, since its foundation.
  • Member of the Food Manufacturers Association under the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, since its foundation in 2026.
  • Member of the Saudi-Yemeni Committee of the Council of Saudi Chambers for two consecutive terms, 2022 to 2029.
  • Advisory Board member at the Ministry of Hajj, 2010 to 2015, after contributing to Hajj and Umrah reform sessions in 2000 to 2003.

Invested beyond industry

Board roles in investment portfolios in health, education and financial services, and an early administrative role at the Yemeni German Hospital in Sana'a, reflect a view that an industrialist's capital should also build what a society needs.

  • Board member in several investment portfolios in the health and education sectors.
  • Partner in a closed joint stock financial company.
  • Administrative consultant to the Yemeni German Hospital, Sana'a, 2000 to 2002.

Taking the group to the next level

In 2025 the group's executives wrote its first documented strategy, Pathways to Sustainable Growth 2025 to 2030. In 2026 it was independently stress-tested and adopted by the Board, together with an operating holding model. Five pillars carry it.

The path

A family group run as a professional holding, with each company led by its own board, measured on the same basis, and ready for the capital markets when the time is right.

Foundation

Governance, authority and reporting put in place across every company.

Operating holding

Shared functions at holding level. Each company focused on its market.

Portfolio focus

Exit what does not fit. Invest in what makes and what owns.

Scale

Manufacturing partner of choice for international brands. Brands of the group's own, growing.

Capital-markets ready

The standard of a listed company, whether or not it lists.

The group today

An operating holding in Jeddah, with companies that make, move and market. The holding owns the brands and carries the heavyweight functions. The companies run their businesses.

Institution over individual

A founder's hardest decision is to build something that no longer depends on him. Since late 2024 the group has been given the structures of an institution, deliberately and in sequence.

Independent boards

Non-shareholder directors appointed to the boards for the first time. An Audit and Risk Committee and a Nomination and Remuneration Committee, each with its own charter and secretariat.

Written authority

A Board-approved authority matrix for the whole group, now being separated into one matrix per company, with compliance measured and reported.

Governance, risk and compliance

A group GRC function, a governance manual, a group code of conduct, an enterprise risk register and a compliance requirements register, built from nothing.

One strategy, one set of measures

The first whole-group executive workshop, the first documented strategy, a full KPI set and scorecards for every leader.

Partnerships to a world standard

Contract manufacturing for international brands brings their policies, audits and standards onto the factory floor, and raises the whole group with them.

Family, professionally run

Family ownership with professional management, an operating holding model, and boards that hold executives to account.

Why then

In November 2024, asked whether the time was right to build governance and quality into the group, he gave seven reasons. They are a clear window into how he reads a moment.

  1. New outside Board members had joined the holding.
  2. Internal audit was about to start.
  3. A new companies law had come into force.
  4. Executives would be evaluated on tasks accomplished.
  5. Board committees were to be set up.
  6. New contracts with international brands required their policies to be followed.
  7. The market was getting harder, and the group had to do better.

Foundations

The education that shaped an industrial mind.

An engineer by training, an industrialist by choice, and a student of his own sectors for forty years.

Born in Jeddah in 1959, he graduated with excellence from Al-Shata High School in 1977 and with honours from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran in 1983, with a bachelor's degree in Industrial Management with a focus on operations.

During his studies he spent nine months in the United States on a university internship with Bechtel Corporation, in cooperation with the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, and was ranked first in his class. He has since completed professional programmes in food processing, transportation and cement manufacturing, the three industries in which he went on to build companies.

The work continues.

If you are building something in the Kingdom or the region, in making, moving or marketing, and you would rather lead than follow, his office would like to hear from you.
